In Bali, the apps Gojek and Grab have made getting around very easy and cheap. However, Gojek, Grab in Nusa Penida are not available, these transport systems do not work on the island. Here are a few other ways to get around.
The cheapest option: bring your own scooter over
If you have time and are a confident scooter rider, bringing your own motorbike over on the ferry is the cheapest and easiest option. The boat ride over costs under 50,000 Idr and will cut out scooter rental costs ( assuming you own the scooter or are renting it long-term for a good price in Bali). The ferry does not always leave on time so get to Padang Bai ferry port early but expect a good few hours before you reach Nusa Penida.
Rent a scooter on arrival
There are plenty of people waiting at the fast boat arrival harbours in Touapakeh, Sampalan and Buyuk who will gladly rent you a scooter. Expect to pay a higher price than in Bali per day( 20 to 30 percent more) and haggle if you are staying for a longer time. Make sure to ask for a helmet, the roads can be treacherous even for experienced drivers.
Catch a taxi or hire a driver
If you are not comfortable driving a scooter or have many bags, you can rent a taxi, either for a destination or for a tour. Single fares are expensive even for short distances. You may want to ask the Nusa Penida Dive Centre or hotel you are suing if they have drivers and how much it costs then either book with them or have an idea of the price ( you should be able to get it a little cheaper if you can haggle).
Other options
If none of these work for you, you could hire a push bike, you may not see all the sights but you will get very fit. You could also befriend a local and find an arrangement for them to drive you around on their scooter.
